Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.178.2 (Hari-mantra for compliance); Garuda Purana 1.177.89 (substance-based efficacy)
The verse presents “oṃ nārāyaṇyai svāhā” as the enabling mantra linked to a specific herbal-betel preparation, indicating a ritualized invocation of Nārāyaṇī to empower the intended effect.
This particular verse does not address afterlife doctrine; it belongs to a practical mantra-and-remedy style passage, framed as Hari’s instruction, rather than the Preta/Yama narrative.
As a textual reference, it shows how the Garuda Purana preserves mantra-linked ritual formulas; in modern practice, such prescriptions should be approached ethically and with guidance, focusing on devotion and responsible use of traditional herbs.
