Nidāna of Vātarakta and Āvaraṇa of Vāyu; Doṣa-wise Lakṣaṇas and Triphalā-Yoga Remedies
Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Dosha: Vata
Concept: Apāna-vāyu is harmed by dry/heavy diet, suppression of natural urges, and excessive travel/exertion; bodily functions require respectful non-violence toward nature’s rhythms.
Vedantic Theme: Harmony with prakriti through niyama; forcing the body (vega-āghāta) increases duhkha and obstructs higher pursuits.
Application: Avoid urge suppression (urination/defecation), balance travel and exercise, hydrate and favor unctuous/warm foods when vāta is high.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.167 (Apana-vayu causation leading to pakvashaya disorders)
Apāna governs downward functions like elimination and reproductive vitality; this verse warns that wrong diet and habits disturb it, becoming a root for many lower-abdominal disorders.
By stressing mastery over urges and moderation, it reinforces self-discipline (saṃyama), a key ethical foundation that supports spiritual progress and reduces karmic distress.
Avoid routinely suppressing urges, limit overly dry/heavy meals, and balance travel/exertion with rest to protect gut and pelvic health.
