Pāṇḍu-Śotha Nidāna: Doṣa-wise Signs, Complications, and Prognosis
Lord Viṣṇu (in instruction to Garuḍa/Vinatā-putra)
Dosha: Pitta
Concept: Cause-and-effect in health: indulgence in pitta-provoking regimen yields worsening pathology and severe jaundice-like states.
Vedantic Theme: Kārya-kāraṇa-bhāva (causal nexus) operating within prakṛti; pramāda as bondage to suffering.
Application: Avoid pitta-aggravating foods/behaviors when pitta is deranged; treat early to prevent progression to severe kāmalā/kumbha-kāmalā.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.162.18 (repeats/clarifies pitta-following swelling and kumbha-kāmalā); Garuda Purana 1.162.17 (signs of kāmalā/pitta aggravation)
It is presented as a difficult, severe form of kāmalā (jaundice) that can develop when earlier disorders like pāṇḍu and pitta-linked swelling are neglected.
It reinforces a dharmic principle of timely care and non-negligence: ignoring warning signs leads to heavier suffering, which can obstruct disciplined spiritual life.
Do not ignore chronic pallor, swelling, and heat signs—seek early diagnosis and correction of diet/lifestyle to prevent severe progression.
