(Praise of the Śiva Purāṇa) / Śivapurāṇa Māhātmya

Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Equates syllabic recitation with major Vedic mantra-observance, then culminates in nirvāṇa in Śiva—typical Purāṇic compression of merit into bhakti-japa/śravaṇa.
Type: gayatri
Shakti Form: Lalitā
Role: liberating
It declares that Śiva-mantra practice is so potent that each syllable yields immense merit, culminating not merely in worldly fulfillment but in nirvāṇa—final liberation in the Lord (Pati), consistent with Shaiva Siddhanta’s aim of release from pāśa (bondage).
In the Vidyeśvara context, mantra-japa is a primary limb of Saguna Śiva worship—often performed alongside Liṅga-pūjā—where disciplined repetition purifies the soul and prepares it for Śiva’s grace, which grants liberation.
Regular mantra-japa with a puraścaraṇa-style discipline (counted repetition, observances, and purity of conduct) is implied; it emphasizes syllable-conscious recitation as a direct means toward both desired results and moksha.
