Praṇava-Māhātmya and the Twofold Mantra (Sūkṣma–Sthūla) in Śaiva Sādhanā
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Ardhanārīśvara
Significance: The verse teaches liberation through realization of Śiva-Śakti-svarūpa; pilgrimage value is secondary to jñāna-bhakti culminating in non-return (apunarbhava).
Shakti Form: Umā
Role: liberating
It teaches that liberation (freedom from rebirth) comes through realization of Śiva inseparable from Śakti—recognizing the Supreme Pati beyond limited identifications and resting in that divine unity.
Linga worship trains the mind to perceive Śiva as the all-pervading Reality; meditating on Śiva-Śakti as one supports Saguna devotion that matures into insight into the Supreme beyond birth and death.
Practice Śiva-dhyāna with Śakti—japa of the Pañcākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") while contemplating Śiva as the indwelling Lord; support it with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as aids to steadiness and purity.
