Parvati (Uma)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
The verse highlights Umā’s compassionate intercession and the Shaiva ideal that sincere devotion and proximity to the Lord (as in Nandin’s service) becomes a cause for divine grace and boons.
Nandin is the foremost attendant of Saguna Shiva and is traditionally placed facing the Shiva-Linga; Umā’s request reinforces the Purāṇic teaching that approaching Shiva through His devotees and attendants supports focused, reverent Linga-worship.
A practical takeaway is to begin Shiva-pūjā by honoring Nandi (Nandi-namaskāra) and cultivating sevā-bhāva (devotional service), then proceeding with mantra-japa such as the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
