(Avadhūteśvara-līlā) — Śiva Tests Indra’s Pride on the Way to Kailāsa
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga episode; it narrates the projection of Śiva’s tejas (from the third eye) into the ocean, leading to the birth of Jalandhara in the wider Jalandhara-upākhyāna.
Significance: Didactic: illustrates Śiva’s sovereign power over tejas and the origin of an asuric embodiment from divine energy when placed in a particular upādhi (oceanic matrix).
It portrays Shiva’s tejas (transforming divine power) as a force that dissolves impurity and restores cosmic balance—symbolizing how grace can subdue destructive tendencies when directed into the right channel.
The verse highlights Saguna Shiva’s active power (tejas) emerging from the third eye—reminding devotees that Linga-worship is not merely symbolic but a means to approach Shiva’s living, purifying presence and governance of creation.
Meditate on Shiva’s bhālanetra (third eye) as inner jñāna-agni (fire of awareness) while repeating the Panchakshara “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” praying that inner anger, ego, and restlessness be ‘cast into the ocean’ of divine stillness.
