The Ascent of Suvela and the First Full View of Laṅkā
तस्मिन्मेवर्ततेरोषःकीर्तितेराक्षसाधमे ।यस्यापराधाननीचस्यवधंद्रक्ष्यामिरक्षसाम् ।।।।
tasmin me vartate roṣaḥ kīrtite rākṣasādhame | yasyāparādhān nīcasya vadhaṃ drakṣyāmi rakṣasām ||
Con sólo mencionar a ese vil rākṣasa, se enciende mi ira; por las ofensas de ese miserable, veré la destrucción de los rākṣasas.
"My wrath is aroused by the mention of the name of lowly Rakshasa. Because of his mistakes all Rakshasas are to be exterminated now."
Dharma here is punitive justice: grave wrongdoing (aparādha) invites rightful retribution, especially in a kṣatriya context.
Rāma, nearing the enemy stronghold, speaks with controlled fury about Rāvaṇa’s crimes and the coming annihilation in war.
Righteous resolve: anger is framed not as personal rage alone but as a response to adharma requiring correction.
