काकुत्स्थस्य शोकनिग्रहः—सुग्रीवसान्त्वनम्
Rama’s Grief Restrained—Sugriva’s Consolation
मयाऽपि व्यसनं प्राप्तं भार्याविरहजं महत्।नाहमेवं हि शोचामि न च धैर्यं परित्यजे।।
mayā ’pi vyasanaṃ prāptaṃ bhāryāvirahajaṃ mahat | nāham evaṃ hi śocāmi na ca dhairyaṃ parityaje ||
Yo también he padecido un gran infortunio nacido de la separación de mi esposa; sin embargo, no me aflijo de este modo ni abandono mi firmeza.
'Give up despair. It is enough. Be patient. Maintain your natural disposition.It is unworthy of men like you to entertain such frivolus thoughts?
Dharma as emotional restraint: suffering is acknowledged, but one should not let grief destroy resolve and right action.
Sugrīva uses his own experience of loss to counsel Rāma toward steadiness.
