Rama’s Lament and Inquiry on Sita’s Disappearance
सपुत्रराज्यां सिद्धार्थां मृतपुत्रा तपस्विनी।उपस्थास्यतिकौसल्या कच्चित्सौम्य न केकयीम्।।।।
saputra-rājyāṃ siddhārthāṃ mṛta-putrā tapasvinī |
upasthāsyati kausalyā kaccit saumya na kaikeyīm ||
Oh, benigno—¿acaso Kausalyā, privada de su hijo y viviendo como una asceta en su dolor, será obligada a servir a Kaikeyī, cuyo propósito se ha cumplido y que goza del reino junto a su hijo?
O handsome one ! I wonder if that lady of renunciation, Kausalya with her son dead, will have to serve Kaikeyi whose desire would be fulfilled, and who will enjoy the power of the throne in the company of her son!
Dharma includes protecting the vulnerable and honoring motherhood; Rama’s anguish highlights the injustice when power compels the righteous (Kausalya) to bow to wrongful ambition.
Rama foresees the suffering of his mother Kausalya if he perishes and Ayodhya falls fully under Kaikeyi’s faction.
Compassion and filial concern—Rama’s pain extends to the dignity and welfare of his mother.
