Jatayu’s Combat with Ravana
ततस्तु तं पत्ररथं महीतले निपातितं रावणवेगमर्दितम्।पुनः परिश्वज्य शशिप्रभानना रुरोद सीता जनकात्मजातदा।।।।
tatas tu taṃ pattrarathaṃ mahītale nipātitaṃ rāvaṇavegamarditam |
punaḥ pariśvajya śaśiprabhānanā ruroda sītā janakātmajā tadā ||
Entonces Sītā, hija de Janaka, de rostro como la luna, volvió a abrazar al guerrero alado, derribado en la tierra y aplastado por el ímpetu de Rāvaṇa; y rompió en llanto.
The mighty Ravana fully released his dreadful, sharp arrows that went straight and pierced the vulture.
Dharma is relational and compassionate: honoring sacrifice, mourning the righteous, and responding to protection with humaneness and gratitude.
Sītā physically holds Jatāyu—now crushed and grounded by Rāvaṇa’s assault—and breaks into tears.
