The Account of Mohinī
Mohinī-upākhyāna
Narada (teaching Tirtha-mahatmya and the fruit of dīpa-dāna in Uttara-Bhaga)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It teaches that dīpa-dāna—especially offering a golden lamp at a sacred tirtha—can act as a powerful expiatory and liberating act, extending spiritual benefit even to those who died in painful or untimely ways.
The verse implies that devotional offerings made with faith at a tirtha (such as lamp-offering) connect the devotee and the departed to divine grace, where liberation is granted not merely by circumstance but by sacred, God-centered acts.
Ritual application (kalpa-style practice) is emphasized: the specific act of dīpa-dāna, its material specification (golden lamp), and its prescribed spiritual result (moksha) within a tirtha-mahatmya framework.
