सहदेवस्य गोसंख्य-तन्तिपाल-रूपेण विराट-समागमः | Sahadeva’s Audience with Virāṭa as Cattle-Enumerator

सा तानुवाच राजेन्द्र सैरन्ध्रयहमिहागता,राजेन्द्र! उनके इस प्रकार पूछनेपर द्रौपदीने उनसे कहा--'मैं सैरन्ध्री- हूँ। जो मुझे अपने यहाँ नियुक्त करना चाहे, उसीके यहाँ मैं सैरन्ध्रीका कार्य करना चाहती हूँ और इसीलिये यहाँ आयी हूँ।” उसके रूप, वेष और मधुर वाणीसे किसीको यह विश्वास नहीं हुआ कि यह दासी है और अन्न-वस्त्रके लिये यहाँ उपस्थित हुई है
sa tān uvāca rājendra sairandhry aham ihāgatā | rājendra! teṣām evaṃ pṛcchatāṃ draupadī uvāca— “ahaṃ sairandhrī; yo māṃ svagṛhe niyokṣyati tasyaiva gṛhe sairandhryāḥ karma kartum icchāmi, tasmād ihāgatāsmi.” tasyā rūpa-veṣa-madhura-vāṇībhiḥ kasyacid api na viśvāso jātaḥ yā dāsī syād anna-vastrārtham ihāgatā iti ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: Cuando le preguntaron, Draupadī respondió: “Oh rey, he venido aquí como sairandhrī (doncella y peinadora). Quienquiera que me tome en su casa, en esa misma casa deseo cumplir los deberes de una sairandhrī; por eso he venido.” Pero, por su hermosura, su porte y su voz dulce, nadie creyó que fuese en verdad una sierva llegada tan sólo en busca de alimento y vestido.
