शृज्भारवेषाभरणौ रूपवन्तौ यशस्विनौ । महारथसहस््राणां समर्थों भरतर्षभौ,और ये शत्रुओंको संताप देनेवाले नकुल जो अबतक आपके यहाँ अश्वशालाके प्रबन्धक रहे हैं और ये सहदेव हैं, जो गौओंकी सँभाल करते आये हैं। ये दोनों (हमारी माता) माद्रीके पुत्र एवं महारथी वीर हैं। उत्तम शृंगार, सुन्दर वेष और आभूषणोंसे सुशोभित ये दोनों भाई बड़े ही रूपवान् और यशस्वी हैं। भरतवंशियोंमें श्रेष्ठ ये नकुल-सहदेव युद्धमें सहस्रों महारथियोंका सामना करनेमें समर्थ हैं
śṛṅgāra-veṣābharaṇau rūpavantau yaśasvinau | mahāratha-sahasrāṇāṃ samarthau bharatarṣabhau | nakulaś ca śatrūṇāṃ santāpa-karaḥ pūrvam aśvaśālā-prabandhakaḥ | ayaṃ ca sahadevaḥ gopālana-saṃrakṣaṇe niyuktaḥ | etau mādryāḥ putrau mahārathī vīrau ||
Arjuna dijo: «Estos dos—Nakula y Sahadeva—hijos de Mādrī, son poderosos guerreros de carro. Nakula, azote de enemigos, ha servido hasta ahora aquí como superintendente de las caballerizas reales; y este es Sahadeva, a quien se confió el cuidado del ganado. Adornados con esmerado arreglo, atavíos hermosos y joyas, ambos son de presencia notable y de fama reconocida. Oh, el mejor de los Bhāratas, estos dos son capaces de hacer frente a miles de grandes combatientes de carro en la batalla.»
