Chapter 58: Arjuna’s Deployment of the Indra-Weapon
स तु लब्ध्वान्तरं तूर्णमपायाज्जवनैह्यै: । छिन्नवर्मध्वज: शूरो निकृत्त: परमेषुभि:
sa tu labdhvāntaraṃ tūṛṇam apāyāj javanaiḥ hayaiḥ | chinnavarma-dhvajaḥ śūro nikṛttaḥ parameṣubhiḥ ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: Al hallar una abertura, se retiró con presteza, espoleando a sus veloces caballos. La armadura y el estandarte del héroe habían sido hechos jirones por las mejores flechas de Arjuna, y él mismo estaba gravemente herido; por eso, aprovechando el instante, huyó de aquel lugar. El episodio subraya una ética del campo de batalla: cuando la capacidad de combatir ha quedado decisivamente quebrantada, se elige la retirada táctica para preservar la vida y la fuerza para un encuentro posterior más conforme al dharma, en vez de buscar una destrucción inútil.
