Chapter 58: Arjuna’s Deployment of the Indra-Weapon
द्रोणस्य पुडुखसक्ताश्न प्रभवन्त: शरासनात् | एको दीर्घ इवादृश्यदाकाशे संहत: शर:
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
droṇasya pṛthukasaṅktāḥ śarāḥ prabhavantaḥ śarāsanāt |
eko dīrgha ivādṛśyad ākāśe saṃhataḥ śaraḥ ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: Del arco de Droṇa brotó una masa de flechas, apretadas unas contra otras. En el cielo, aquel racimo—tan ceñido—parecía una sola flecha, larga y gigantesca.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined mastery and concentrated force: when skill and intent are perfectly coordinated, many actions can function as one decisive act—an image often used in epic warfare to underscore the power of trained expertise within kṣatriya-dharma.
The narrator describes Droṇa releasing a dense volley of arrows. Because they fly so closely together, the mass looks like a single enormous arrow streaking through the sky, emphasizing the intensity of the combat and Droṇa’s formidable archery.
