Arjuna–Karna Engagement in the Cattle-Raid Aftermath
The colophon signals that the chapter’s focus is Karṇa’s boastful self-praise during a martial episode, implicitly contrasting valor with the ethical danger of pride (ahaṅkāra) and competitive speech that inflames conflict.
This is an end-of-chapter notice stating that the forty-eighth chapter—about Karṇa’s self-laudatory words spoken during the northern cattle-seizure in the Goharaṇa section of the Virāṭa Parva—has concluded.
