Do not presume upon royal favour. Even if one is trusted, one should avoid using the king’s privileged possessions (mounts, seats, bed, elephant, chariot). Humility and respect for boundaries are presented as the means to remain safe and blameless in a palace environment.
Dhāumya gives practical counsel about how to live within a king’s household. The instruction reflects the dangers of court life: acting like an insider or displaying entitlement can provoke suspicion, jealousy, or punishment; discreet restraint ensures peaceful residence.
