The verse highlights how social power and the perceived authority of a great ascetic can shape worldly choices: even evident virtues like youth and good conduct may not lead to marriage when fear of a revered or formidable figure overrides personal desire and social norms.
The speaker explains that a young woman, despite being virtuous and well-conducted, remained unchosen because potential suitors refrained out of fear of the great sage Agastya.
