Educational Q&A

Tapas is portrayed as a potent force that can shape destiny and even create means toward a goal; yet its fruits enter the moral world through acts of giving and acceptance, placing ethical responsibility on both ascetic and king regarding lineage and duty.

The king of Vidarbha is undertaking austerities to obtain a son. A great sage, who had created a woman for his own purpose, bestows her upon the king, setting in motion events connected with royal progeny and the consequences of such extraordinary gifts.
