Agastya and Vātāpi: Ilvala’s stratagem; Lopāmudrā’s emergence

Educational Q&A

Pilgrimage undertaken with discipline and reverence—especially contact with sacred waters and the uplifting presence of great sages—generates puṇya that ripens into both ethical goods (pure fame) and worldly goods (prosperity), as exemplified by righteous kings of the past.

Lomaśa encourages the royal listener during the forest sojourn by citing exemplary kings such as Nṛga and Śibi: just as they gained renown and wealth through tapas and tīrtha-yātrā, so the present king too will attain abundant fortune through the merit of pilgrimage.
