The verse teaches that disciplined observance—ritual purity (bathing), restraint, and regulated eating—can confer the same religious merit as an elaborate sacrifice, emphasizing inner discipline and ethical self-control as powerful means of dharmic attainment.
A speaker (here attributed as “ghulastya”) describes the spiritual benefit of performing prescribed rites at a sacred spot: by bathing there and maintaining vows with regulated food, a person gains the fruit of the Gavāṁ-medha sacrifice.
