यक्ष उवाच तस्य ते<र्थाच्च कामाच्च आनृशंस्यं परं मतम् | तस्मात् ते भ्रातर: सर्वे जीवन्तु भरतर्षभ,यक्षने कहा--भरतगश्रेष्ठ! तुमने अर्थ और कामसे भी अधिक दया और समताका आदर किया है, इसलिये तुम्हारे सभी भाई जीवित हो जायेँ
yakṣa uvāca tasya te 'rthāc ca kāmāc ca ānṛśaṃsyaṃ paraṃ matam | tasmāt te bhrātaraḥ sarve jīvantu bharatarṣabha ||
Dijo el Yakṣa: «Oh toro entre los Bharatas, has tenido la compasión y la equidad por superiores incluso a la búsqueda de riqueza y placer. Por ello, que vivan todos tus hermanos».
यक्ष उवाच
Compassion and non-cruelty (ānṛśaṃsya) are presented as higher than the goals of wealth (artha) and pleasure (kāma). The verse affirms that ethical restraint and humane concern are the decisive virtues that merit divine or moral reward.
In the Yakṣa-prashna episode, Yudhiṣṭhira is tested by the Yaksha. Having demonstrated that he values compassion above worldly aims, he is granted a boon: the restoration of life to all his brothers.
