«Oh Señor, si mi unión contigo ocurriera de un modo contrario a la norma védica, entonces por mi causa la buena fama de este linaje quedaría destruida ante los ojos del mundo.»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse foregrounds dharma as adherence to prescribed (Vedic/social) norms: even a desired union becomes ethically blameworthy if it violates vidhi, because personal action can damage the collective honor and moral standing of one’s lineage in society.
A speaker, addressing a divine figure, expresses reluctance or fear: if their union occurs outside sanctioned procedure, the resulting public scandal would cause the family’s reputation to collapse, and the speaker would bear responsibility for that disgrace.
