मत्कृतेन हि तावद्य सन््तापं परमेष्यत: । जीवन्तावनुजीवामि भर्तव्यौं तौ मयेति ह
matkṛtena hi tāvadya santāpaṃ parameṣyataḥ | jīvantāv anujīvāmi bhartavyau tau mayeti ha ||
Dijo Yama: «Por lo que yo he hecho, esos dos caerán por un tiempo en la más honda angustia. Pero mientras vivan, yo los sostendré; a esos dos debo mantenerlos yo».
यम उवाच
Even an authority of justice acknowledges accountability for the suffering caused by one’s own act and accepts the duty to sustain and protect those affected—balancing punishment or consequence with responsibility and compassion.
Yama speaks about “those two” (a pair referenced in the surrounding story) who, due to his action, will experience intense grief for a time; nevertheless, he declares that as long as they live he will keep them alive and provide for them.
