यदि धर्मे च ते बुद्धिर्मा चेज्जीवन्तमिच्छसि । मम प्रियं वा कर्तव्यं गच्छावाश्रममन्तिकात्,यदि तुम्हारी बुद्धि धर्ममें रत है, यदि तुम मुझे जीवित देखना चाहती हो अथवा मेरा प्रिय करना अपना कर्तव्य समझती हो तो हम दोनों शीघ्र ही आश्रमके समीप चलें
yadi dharme ca te buddhir mā cej jīvantam icchasi | mama priyaṃ vā kartavyaṃ gacchāvāśramam antikāt ||
Mārkaṇḍeya dijo: «Si tu entendimiento está puesto en el dharma, y si deseas verme con vida—o si tienes por deber hacer lo que me es grato—entonces vayamos los dos, sin demora, a las cercanías del eremitorio.»
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse frames dharma as practical obedience to wise counsel: if one truly values righteousness and the well-being of the elder/teacher, one should act promptly in accordance with what is beneficial and requested.
Mārkaṇḍeya addresses a listener and urges immediate action: if she is committed to dharma and cares for him (or wishes him to remain alive), she should accompany him at once to the hermitage nearby.
