Kuntī’s Regulated Hospitality to a Brāhmaṇa Guest
तां नेतुं स इहायातो बद्ध्वा सेतुं महार्णवे । तेन चैव प्रहस्तादिर्महान् न: स्वजनो हत:,“उसे वापस लेनेके लिये ही राम महासागरपर पुल बाँधकर यहाँ आया है। उसने हमारे प्रहस्त आदि प्रमुख स्वजनोंको मार डाला है
tāṁ netuṁ sa ihāyāto baddhvā setuṁ mahārṇave | tena caiva prahastādir mahān naḥ svajano hataḥ ||
«Ha venido aquí precisamente para recuperarla, después de tender un puente sobre el gran océano. Y por su mano han caído nuestros grandes parientes, comenzando por Prahasta».
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical gravity of adharma (wrongful taking/abduction) provoking a determined, dharma-aligned response: the wronged party undertakes extraordinary effort to restore what is right, while the aggressor’s side faces the painful consequences of its own actions—loss of kin and the collapse of unjust power.
Markaṇḍeya describes Rāma’s arrival after constructing a bridge over the ocean to reach the enemy’s domain and reclaim the abducted woman (Sītā). In the ensuing conflict, major figures on the opposing side—such as Prahasta—have been killed by Rāma.
