Sāvitrī’s Dialogue with Yama and the Restoration of Satyavān
The verse underscores the ethical force of a pratijñā (solemn vow): righteous aims and mutual commitments create moral accountability in alliances—removing wrongdoing (Vālin) and restoring what was unjustly taken (Sītā).
Mārkaṇḍeya recounts how Rāma promised to slay Vālin in battle, while Sugrīva promised to recover Sītā—establishing a reciprocal pact that drives their joint action.
