Draupadī’s Lament and the Question of Kṣatriya Forbearance

Educational Q&A

Ethical action—especially conciliation and forgiveness—must be guided by context: assess place, time, and one’s capacity. A good policy used at the wrong moment fails; sometimes social consequences (public fear/opinion) also make pardon the wiser course.

Prahlāda is giving counsel in the mode of nīti (practical ethics/statecraft), advising that mildness and pardon are not absolute rules but strategic virtues to be applied only after judging circumstances, including public sentiment.
