मार्कण्डेय उवाच
As a colophon-like closing, the verse emphasizes textual and thematic completion: the epic presents the origin of the vānara hosts as part of a purposeful moral narrative, reminding readers that such accounts function as instructive exempla within the Mahābhārata’s dharma-centered discourse.
This line marks the conclusion of a chapter in the Rāmopākhyāna section of the Vana Parva, specifically the chapter connected with the origin of monkeys and related beings; it serves as an editorial/narrative closure rather than advancing plot events.
