This verse is a colophon rather than a doctrinal statement: it teaches how the Mahābhārata frames events within ordered textual units (parva, parvan, adhyāya). Ethically, it signals that the abduction of Draupadī is treated as a grave adharma whose consequences propel the narrative toward corrective action and the reassertion of dharma.
The verse announces the completion of the chapter in the Vana Parva, specifically within the Draupadī-abduction section, and identifies the chapter’s theme as Pārtha’s (Arjuna’s) arrival. It functions as a formal closing line that transitions to the next portion of the story.
