वत्सभूमिं विनिर्जित्य केवलां मृत्तिकावतीम् | मोहन पत्तनं चैव त्रिपुरीं कोसलां तथा
vatsabhūmiṁ vinirjitya kevalāṁ mṛttikāvatīm | mohana patthanaṁ caiva tripurīṁ kosalāṁ tathā
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: Tras someter Vatsabhūmi —dejándola como un simple yermo— tomó también Mohana, la ciudad llamada Patthana, Tripurī y asimismo Kosalā.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the far-reaching consequences of conquest: territories can be reduced to 'mere earth,' suggesting the fragility of worldly prosperity under aggressive political ambition and the ethical weight borne by rulers who pursue expansion.
Vaiśampāyana lists a sequence of places that were subdued—Vatsabhūmi (described as left as bare ground), along with Mohana, Patthana, Tripurī, and Kosalā—indicating a campaign of victories and territorial acquisition.
