When one’s dependents are safe and cared for, it is unbecoming to indulge in anger or dejection; dharma calls for steadiness, gratitude, and self-restraint rather than reactive emotion.
Vaiśampāyana, narrating the events, conveys a counsel addressed to a responsible protector: since the people under his care are living securely and without distress, he should not succumb to resentment or low self-pity like an ordinary person.
