चित्रसेनगन्धर्वैः कौरवसंनिपातः

अनुप्रविश्य रुद्रेण वह्लिं जातो हायं शिशु: । तत्र जातस्तत:ः स्कन्दो रुद्रसूनुस्ततो5भवत्,'रुद्रने अग्निमें प्रवेश करके इस शिशुको जन्म दिया है। रुद्रस्वरूप अग्निसे उत्पन्न होनेके कारण स्कन्द रुद्रके ही पुत्र कहलाये”
anupraviśya rudreṇa vahliṁ jāto hāyaṁ śiśuḥ | tatra jātastataḥ skando rudrasūnustato 'bhavat ||
Dijo Mārkaṇḍeya: «Por el poder de Rudra, al entrar en Agni (el Fuego), nació este niño. Nacido allí del fuego que era de la propia naturaleza de Rudra, después fue conocido como Skanda; así se le tuvo por hijo del mismo Rudra.»
