Citrasena and the Kaurava engagement

tasmād indro bhavān eva bhavitā mā vicāraya | prabho! yadi tvaṁ phūṭa jāoge to jagat-ke prāṇī do bhāgoṁ meṁ baṭ jāyaṁge | mahābalavān vīra! sampūrṇa lokōṁ ke niścaya hī do daloṁ meṁ baṭ jāne tathā logoṁ ke dvārā bheda-buddhi utpanna kiye jāne par asmāsu yuddhaḥ prārambhaṁ gacchet | tāta! tasmin yuddhe yathā mama viśvāsaḥ, tvam eva vijayī bhaveḥ | ataḥ tvam indro bhava | asmin viṣaye kācid anyā vārtā mā bhūt ||

Educational Q&A

Indra warns that leadership disputes and ‘bheda-buddhi’ (a mentality of division) fracture communities into rival camps and can trigger war; decisive acceptance of rightful responsibility is presented as a means to preserve cosmic and social order.

Śakra (Indra) urges the addressed hero to assume the position of Indra without hesitation, arguing that any split would divide beings and worlds into two parties and lead to conflict—one in which the hero would likely win anyway—so it is better to accept the role peacefully.
