मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights the authority of Vedic learning in defining and preserving sacred institutions: ritual fires are not treated as ordinary elements but as consecrated, named presences whose sanctity is affirmed by those who have mastered the Vedas.
Mārkaṇḍeya reports what Veda-knowing Brāhmaṇas say: they identify and describe two named sacred fires—Śambhu and Āvasathya—emphasizing their brilliance and revered status within ritual tradition.
