Skanda’s Consecration as Devasenāpati

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights tapas (disciplined austerity) as a dharmic means of cultivating tejas—inner radiance and spiritual potency—so strong that it benefits the wider world. Ethical emphasis falls on sustained self-control and purposeful striving rather than mere display of power.

Yudhiṣṭhira recounts an ancient example: the sage Aṅgiras remains in his hermitage and performs intense austerities, aiming to surpass even Agni in brilliance. After succeeding, he shines forth and is described as illuminating the whole world.
