अग्निवंशवर्णनम् (Agni-vaṃśa-varṇana) / The Genealogy and Function of Agni
जो अपने शरीरमें ही सदा विद्यमान रहनेवाले मनसहित छहों इन्द्रियोंपर अधिकार पा लेता है वह जितेन्द्रिय पुरुष पापोंमें नहीं लगता। फिर पापजनित अनर्थोंसे तो उसका संयोग ही कैसे हो सकता है? ।। रथ: शरीर पुरुषस्य दृष्ट- मात्मा नियन्तेन्द्रियाण्याहुरश्वान् । तैरप्रमत्त: कुशली सददश्नै- दन्ति: सुखं याति रथीव धीर:,पुरुषका यह प्रत्यक्ष देखनेमें आनेवाला स्थूल शरीर रथ है। आत्मा (बुद्धि) सारथि है और इन्द्रियोंको अश्व बताया गया है। जैसे कुशल, सावधान एवं धीर रथी उत्तम घोड़ोंको अपने वशमें रखकर उनके द्वारा सुखपूर्वक मार्ग तै करता है, उसी प्रकार सावधान, धीर एवं साधन-कुशल पुरुष इन्द्रियोंको वशमें करके सुखसे जीवन-यात्रा पूर्ण करता है
yaḥ svadehe sadaiva vidyamānena manasā saha ṣaṇṇām indriyāṇām adhikāraṁ prāpnoti sa jitendriyaḥ puruṣaḥ pāpeṣu na sajjate; punaḥ pāpajanitaiḥ anarthaiḥ tasya saṁyogaḥ kathaṁ bhavet? rathaḥ śarīraṁ puruṣasya dṛṣṭam; ātmā niyantā; indriyāṇy āhuḥ aśvān. tair apramattaḥ kuśalī sad-aśvaiḥ dantīva sukhaṁ yāti rathīva dhīraḥ.
El cazador dijo: «Quien alcanza el dominio de los seis sentidos junto con la mente—siempre presente en el propio cuerpo—se vuelve un hombre dueño de sí y no cae en el pecado. ¿Cómo podría entonces entrar en contacto con las desgracias nacidas del pecado? El cuerpo visible y tangible es como un carro; el ser interior, como inteligencia que guía, es el auriga; y los sentidos se dicen los caballos. Así como un auriga diestro, vigilante y firme, con caballos bien adiestrados bajo control, recorre el camino con comodidad y seguridad, del mismo modo el hombre prudente, constante y hábil en la disciplina, al refrenar los sentidos, completa el viaje de la vida con bienestar.»
