Dijo Vaiśampāyana: A un avaro se le gana con dádivas, y a quien habla falsedades se le vence con la verdad. Al cruel se le supera con paciencia, y al malvado se le somete mediante la conducta del virtuoso.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse teaches a dharmic strategy of overcoming negative traits not by mirroring them, but by applying their ethical opposites: generosity against miserliness, truth against lying, patience against cruelty, and noble conduct against wickedness.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a general moral instruction is being stated as part of the Vana Parva’s didactic counsel: guidance on how to deal with different kinds of difficult people through virtuous means.
