मार्कण्डेय उवाच एवमुक्तो वामदेवेन राज- न्नन्त:पुरे राजपुत्र॑ं जघान । स सायकस्तिग्मतेजा विसृष्ट: श्रुत्वा दलस्तत्र वाक्यं बभाषे,मार्कण्डेयजी कहते हैं--राजन्! वामदेवके ऐसा कहते ही उस प्रचण्ड तेजस्वी बाणने धनुषसे छूटकर रनवासके भीतर जा राजकुमारका वध कर डाला। यह समाचार सुनकर दलने वहाँ पुनः इस प्रकार कहा--
mārkaṇḍeya uvāca—evam ukto vāmadevena rājan antaḥpure rājaputraṃ jaghāna | sa sāyakas tigmategā visṛṣṭaḥ śrutvā dalas tatra vākyaṃ babhāṣa |
Dijo Markandeya: «Oh rey, apenas Vāmadeva hubo hablado así, una flecha de fulgor feroz, soltada del arco, voló a los aposentos interiores y dio muerte al príncipe. Al oír esta noticia, Dala habló de nuevo del modo siguiente».
