Indradyumna Upākhyāna: On Kīrti, Smṛti, and Restoration

दस्युभि: पीडिता राजन्‌ काका इव द्विजोत्तमा: । कुराजभिश्न सततं करभारप्रपीडिता:,राजन! श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मण भी लुटेरोंसे पीड़ित होकर कौओंकी तरह काँव-काँव करते फिरेंगे। दुष्ट राजाओंके लगाये हुए करोंके भारसे सदा पीड़ित होनेके कारण वे धैर्य छोड़कर चल देंगे और शूद्रोंकी सेवा-शुश्रूषामें लगे रहकर धर्मविरुद्ध कार्य करेंगे। भूपाल! भयंकर कलियुगके अन्तमें जगत्‌की यही दशा होगी

dasyubhiḥ pīḍitā rājan kākā iva dvijottamāḥ | kurājabhiś ca satataṃ karabhāra-prapīḍitāḥ ||

Mārkaṇḍeya dijo: «Oh rey, los mejores entre los nacidos dos veces serán hostigados por bandidos y, como cuervos, vagarán lanzando gritos de aflicción. Y, oprimidos sin cesar por el peso de los tributos impuestos por gobernantes malvados, perderán su firmeza, abandonarán el rumbo que les corresponde y—al ponerse al servicio de los Śūdras—caerán en actos contrarios al dharma. Oh protector de la tierra, tal será la condición del mundo al terrible fin de la era de Kali».

The verse warns that when rulers become unrighteous and predatory—failing in their duty of protection and fair governance—society’s moral and spiritual foundations erode.
