Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma expressed as obedience to rightful authority and commitment to a larger purpose, even when it causes personal sorrow. Ethical life may demand painful separations; steadfastness lies in fulfilling duty without denying the reality of grief.

Arjuna (called Jiṣṇu) departs from the Kāmyaka forest on Yudhiṣṭhira’s instruction. His departure immediately plunges the remaining Pāṇḍavas (and companions) into sorrow, underscoring both Arjuna’s importance to them and the cost of their exile-bound responsibilities.
