भरद्वाजपुत्रवधः
The Slaying of Bharadvāja’s Son and the Sage’s Lament
लोगमश उवाच विलप्यैवं बहुविधं भरद्वाजो5दहत् सुतम् । सुसमिद्धं ततः पश्चात् प्रविवेश हुताशनम्
Lomāśa uvāca: vilapyaivaṁ bahuvidhaṁ Bharadvājo ’dahat sutam | susamiddhaṁ tataḥ paścāt praviveśa hutāśanam ||
Dijo Lomāśa: Tras lamentarse de muchas maneras, Bharadvāja entregó a su hijo al fuego. Luego, cuando la hoguera ardía con pleno vigor, él mismo entró en el fuego sagrado.
लोगमश उवाच
The verse highlights how intense grief can drive a person to extreme, irreversible actions. In dharma-oriented narrative, it serves as a caution that sorrow, if unchecked by discernment and self-control, can eclipse one’s duties and lead to self-destruction.
Lomāśa narrates that the sage Bharadvāja, after lamenting repeatedly, cremated his son. When the funeral fire was blazing, Bharadvāja then entered the fire himself.
