Sātyaki’s Call for Intervention and Yudhiṣṭhira’s Vow-Bound Restraint (सात्यकिवाक्यं—धर्मराजस्य धैर्यनिश्चयः)
युधिछिर उवाच नेदं चित्र माधव यद् ब्रवीषि सत्य॑ तु मे रक्ष्यतमं न राज्यम् । कृष्णस्तु मां वेद यथावदेक: कृष्णं च वेदाहमथो यथावत्,युधिष्ठिरने कहा--सात्यके! तुम जो कुछ कह रहे हो वह तुम्हारे-जैसे वीरके लिये कोई आश्चर्यकी बात नहीं है, परंतु मेरे लिये सत्यकी रक्षा ही प्रधान है, राज्यकी प्राप्ति नहीं। केवल श्रीकृष्ण ही मुझे अच्छी तरह जानते हैं और मैं भी कृष्णके स्वरूपको यथार्थ-रूपसे जानता हूँ
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca
nedaṃ citra mādhava yad bravīṣi satyaṃ tu me rakṣyatamaṃ na rājyam |
kṛṣṇas tu māṃ veda yathāvad ekaḥ kṛṣṇaṃ ca vedāham atho yathāvat ||
Dijo Yudhiṣṭhira: «Oh Mādhava, lo que dices no es extraño en un héroe como tú. Pero para mí, la custodia de la verdad es el deber supremo, no la conquista de un reino. Sólo Kṛṣṇa me conoce de veras tal como soy, y yo también conozco a Kṛṣṇa en su naturaleza real, tal como es».
