कण्वोपदेशः—नश्वरबलविवेकः तथा मातलिगुणकेश्याः आख्यानारम्भः

अल्पीयांसं विशिष्ट वा तत् ते राजन् समाहितम् | “राजन! आजसे फिर कभी घमंडमें आकर अपनेसे बड़े या छोटे किन्हीं राजाओंपर किसी प्रकार भी आक्षेप न करना। इस बातके लिये मैंने तुम्हें सावधान कर दिया ।।
alpīyāṁsaṁ viśiṣṭa vā tat te rājan samāhitam | kṛtaprajño vītalobho nirahaṅkāra ātmavān ||
Dijo Rama: «Oh rey, grábate bien esto: desde hoy, nunca más, por orgullo, arrojes reproches contra ningún soberano, sea menor que tú o mayor que tú. Te he advertido por tu propio bien. Sé un hombre de juicio firme, libre de codicia, sin ego y dueño de ti mismo; gobierna a tu pueblo con humildad y templanza, y no culpes a otros sin conocer antes su verdadera fuerza y su flaqueza.»
