बाला विहीना: पित्रा ते त्वयैव परिवर्धिता: । तान् पालय यथान्यायं पुत्रांश्ष भरतर्षभ,भरतर्षभ! पाण्डव बाल्यावस्थामें ही पितासे बिछुड़ गये थे। आपने ही उन्हें पाल- पोसकर बड़ा किया; अत: उनका और अपने पुत्रोंका न्यायपूर्वक पालन कीजिये
bālā vihīnāḥ pitrā te tvayaiva parivardhitāḥ | tān pālaya yathānyāyaṃ putrān bharatarṣabha ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana dijo: «Oh toro de los Bhāratas, aquellos muchachos, privados de su padre en la niñez, fueron criados por ti solo. Por ello, protégelos y susténtalos—junto con tus propios hijos—conforme a la justicia y al deber recto».
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A guardian-king must uphold impartial justice: having raised the fatherless Pāṇḍavas, Dhṛtarāṣṭra is ethically bound to protect and provide for them fairly, not privileging his own sons over those under his care.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war deliberations, the speaker reminds Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Pāṇḍavas lost their father early and were brought up in his household; therefore he should ensure their rightful protection and maintenance in accordance with justice.
