Sañjaya on Janārdana’s Decisive Sovereignty
Wise intervention begins with discerning intentions. The verse highlights the ethical role of a sage: to understand the inner resolve of rulers and advisers and to offer timely counsel so that decisions align with dharma before they lead to harm.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Vyāsa, perceiving the current intention of Sañjaya and Dhṛtarāṣṭra, comes into the royal assembly and begins to speak—setting up a moment of guidance and admonition in the tense lead-up to the Kurukṣetra conflict.
