उद्योगपर्व — अध्याय ५४: दुर्योधनस्य धृतराष्ट्रं प्रति बलप्रशंसन-युक्तः आश्वासनवादः
Duryodhana’s Reassurance and Force-Praise to Dhritarashtra
समुच्छेद च कृत्स्नं नः कृत्वा तात जनार्दन: । एकराज्यं कुरूणां सम चिकीर्षति युधिष्ठिरे
samucchedaṃ ca kṛtsnaṃ naḥ kṛtvā tāta janārdanaḥ | ekarājyaṃ kurūṇāṃ saṃ cikīrṣati yudhiṣṭhire
Duryodhana says: “O dear one, Janārdana (Kṛṣṇa) intends to annihilate us completely and then establish a single, undivided sovereignty over the Kurus for Yudhiṣṭhira.”
दुर्योधन उवाच
The verse highlights how fear and attachment to power can distort moral judgment: Duryodhana interprets Kṛṣṇa’s involvement as a plot for total destruction and political consolidation, illustrating how suspicion and ego can eclipse discernment of dharma and legitimate reconciliation.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war negotiations, Duryodhana voices distrust toward Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana), claiming that Kṛṣṇa aims to wipe out the Kauravas and secure sole rule of the Kuru kingdom for Yudhiṣṭhira—revealing Duryodhana’s hardened stance against compromise.
