Adhyaya 32: Saṃjaya’s Return, Audience with Dhṛtarāṣṭra, and Ethical Admonition
यस्य संसारिणी प्रज्ञा धर्मार्थावनुवर्तते । कामादर्थ वृणीते य: स वै पण्डित उच्यते,जिसकी लौकिक बुद्धि धर्म और अर्थका ही अनुसरण करती है और जो भोगको छोड़कर पुरुषार्थका ही वरण करता है, वही पण्डित कहलाता है
yasya saṃsāriṇī prajñā dharmārthāv anuvartate | kāmād arthaṃ vṛṇīte yaḥ sa vai paṇḍita ucyate ||
Vidura dijo: «Se llama verdaderamente sabio aquel cuya inteligencia práctica en el mundo sigue sólo al dharma y al artha, y que—dejando de lado el mero placer—elige como meta el provecho con propósito y la recta conducta».
विदुर उवाच
A truly wise person lets practical intelligence be guided by dharma and artha, not by the pursuit of pleasure; he prioritizes righteous conduct and legitimate welfare over indulgence.
In Vidura’s counsel (Vidura-nīti) within the Udyoga Parva, he defines the mark of a paṇḍita while advising on right priorities and disciplined judgment amid the political crisis leading toward war.
