Adhyaya 32: Saṃjaya’s Return, Audience with Dhṛtarāṣṭra, and Ethical Admonition
प्रदायैषामुचितं तात राज्यं सुखी पुत्रै: सहितो मोदमान: । न देवानां नापि च मानुषाणां भविष्यसि त्वं तर्कणीयो नरेन्द्र,तात! उन्हें उनका न््यायोचित राज्यभाग देकर आप अपने पुत्रोंक साथ आनन्दित होते हुए सुख भोगिये। नरेन्द्र! ऐसा करनेपर आप देवताओं तथा मनुष्योंकी आलोचनाके विषय नहीं रह जायँगे
pradāyaiṣām ucitaṃ tāta rājyaṃ sukhī putraiḥ sahito modamānaḥ | na devānāṃ nāpi ca mānuṣāṇāṃ bhaviṣyasi tvaṃ tarkaṇīyo narendra, tāta ||
Vidura exhorta al rey: «Padre querido, concédeles la parte del reino que por derecho les corresponde. Entonces, viviendo feliz y regocijándote junto a tus hijos, goza de la paz. Oh rey, al obrar así ya no serás blanco de reproche ni de censura—ni entre los dioses ni entre los hombres.»
विदुर उवाच
A ruler should uphold dharma by granting a rightful share and acting justly; ethical governance brings peace at home and protects one from moral blame in both human society and the higher moral order (symbolized by the gods).
In the Udyoga Parva, Vidura counsels the king (Dhṛtarāṣṭra) to avert conflict by giving the rightful kingdom-share to the opposing claimants, so that the king may live happily with his sons and avoid universal censure.
